We are always looking for new ideas for service projects and ways in which to explain the importance of service projects to our students. I think these books would be extremely useful for that purpose.
These books would be used to make service learning more of a priority for my special education students, which range from K-8. Hoping to find some low cost, creative ideas!
It would make great non fiction reading for my ALE class, as well as, teaching our students about our wonderous Earth! We are implementing our own “Earth Day” activities and these would make awesome resources.
We would use The Kid’s Guide to Service Projects to encourage young people to give back to the community.
Working on getting students to read more informative books. New material that holds their interest would help
As a school counselor, we do many activities related to health, citizenship, volunteering and helping others. I would appreciate winning this for our school as it would be great to share with our students during guidance and group lessons as well as an addition to my character education curriculum. As a special education teacher, a board member of your local elementary school district and a parent of a student in our local high school, I have had many conversations about how the students in all locations need to get more involved in our community. I feel these books would provide ideas and suggestions for ways to help our students in the many great areas that are covered. A river flows through our community and I see areas that are in need of help. I would love to be able to use these books to set up some type of program that our students could use to not only better themselves but our community as well.
While teaching and learning new skills is important, service projects allow students to become more aware of how others live. Service is an important key to being successful!!!
I would love to encourage students more to make a difference in our school and community. Many times they simply don’t realize that they CAN make a difference.
Service learning is important for developing our students into well-rounded, productive citizens of tomorrow. Our school is requires service learning projects and opportunities. This set of books would be an additional resource for staff and students.
I am trying to go green in my room. These books would help get ideas and stir up more interest not only with my students but the other students in our school.
I will be using the Kid’s guide to service project book in the school counseling curriculum next year. It looks to be a great resource!

I would use the service project book to expand our list of service projects that my son and Ialready bring to his classrooms. These things have really softened his heart.
Our high school students participate in a day long “Service Learning Day.” My middle school just recently started our own version, and any help and insight we can get through these books would be much appreciated!

As a nurse who runs The Emily Center, a health library inside of Phoenix Children’s Hospital, I would put these books into our collection. Even though most of our library patrons are sick children or their siblings, we have many of these children that, when they get well or as they are dying, they want to do something for others to pay back all of the love and help they have received! These books can help them in those efforts.
Free Spirit books and publications bring reality into the classroom!
We are a new high school in Memphis that cater to the lower 5% of the city. I use Free Spirit to help my students deal with real world issues. We are a PBL school and the facilitators embed real-world issues into their projects. This will help them to see another side of what is really going on.
Free spirit is a great learning tool for children of all ages. I always read them to my children to teach about an emotion.
I use a lot of Free Spirit books in my classroom.
My students like looking at the catalog to see what I will be bringing to them next.

Teaching Talented and Gifted students to be better people by taking care of each other as well as the environment. They will in turn share their knowledge and experience with others.

Free Spirit Publications products provide me an incredible resource in establishing rapport, building safe relationships and addressing hard issues that kids and adults normally avoid.
As a school with 85% of our students on free/reduced lunches, I work diligently to let them know that they are always able to give back! These materials would help me come up with new ideas to use in our building!
What better way for kids in our afterschool program to give back and develop a connection to their community in which they live than through community service projects?
As a academic library, we use your products for college students studying to become classroom teachers and librarians.
We use the Service Projects and Service Learning with our Junior High and High School Youth groups. They have great ideas that kids really enjoy doing, and are beneficial in our community!
I love the ideas ~ and will use the service learning information as I work with 4-H members and volunteers!
I would incorporate the publications in my 3rd grade class across the curriculum for real world experiences and group project ideas. If students can visualize about what they are reading about in class through real life examples and activities they can better understand why it is important to take action. Students can participate in after school clubs in different projects that affect our planet, people and animals. They can learn to make a different and teach others to do the same.
I’m also a Girl Scout leader and these would be a great tie in with the Leadership Journeys for my girls. My Daisies just finished an animal journey and are now embarking on an environmental one. Next year as Brownies, there is another journey about water they may pursue. I think the service element is one of the most important, although sometimes overshadowed, parts of the scouting experience.
I use Free Spirit publishing resources with my own kids and have recommended the website as well as specific books to friends and family.
Giving students the opportunity to participate in community service projects allows them to work on real life activities while helping others.
This is a direction to continue creating life long learners among my kids.
I would use the books to encourage our teacher education candidates to include service learning in their teaching. Service learning is required in a number of our local school districts, yet it’s a missing link in the Instructional Materials Center’s collections.

As a School Social Worker I use your resources all the time!
We build service learning into many of our Gifted and Talented units, especially those involving our Leadership studnts. It is our responsibility as educators to instill that obligation to the community in their learning. The Service Learning books would definitely help in the planning of these units.
I use your Everyday Leadership cards as journal prompts for my 8th graders. I would love to take on service learning in the upcoming school year.
Awesome set of books. We run a student recycling club, an Earth Day club, and our student councel and No Place for Hate groups do service project through out the year. These books will make an amazing resource for them.

Free Spirit publications has helped me become a better classroom teacher not just to the gifted students who were not working hard or in depth, but also raised the level of work in both math and science of my lower performing students by giving them writing assignments in small mini-books that they create about subjects from plate tectonics to food webs.
