I’m the Children’s Ministry Director for my church. More of our kids are being diagnosed with ADD and Autism. I would use these resources to share with my parents and volunteers, as well as read them myself.
I am a mom of a teen with Asperger’s and she would find these books hugely helpful. I am also a psychologist and advocate for families with kids with special needs, and many of the clients I work with would find these books meet a lot of needs, so having them as a resource in my office would mean I could expose a lot of people to the wonderful work Free Spirit does!

Reading about autism is always helpful. I definitely want to learn more.
As an ESE teacher, these resources would be for myself as well as other colleagues and parents.
I met Daniel Stefanski when he presented at a Barnes and Noble a year ago. He was an outstanding, brilliant kid who truly wanted to make a difference. I want to do that as an educator, as well. I purchased one copy of Daniel’s book that day, but wish I had purchased more. I have many, many students who would benefit from these resources: students with Autism, students with Asperger’s, students who need to be more aware and accepting of others, etc. Free Spirit Publishing sets a wonderful example for other publishing companies. I would use these resources in my work with students as a school counselor. I am working with more and more ASD students and trying to soak up as much information and as may strategies as I can to be effective in helping ASD students cope and relate to others. These resources would be immensely helpful in my being more successful with these students (and their parents!)

I would use them in my classroom . We have 3 austic children in our class plus we do social skills with them I thinkit would be a great help.
I’d love to use these resources to help my boy and his cadre of friends who are on the spectrum.
I am a K-2 special education teacher with a class of students on the autism spectrum. I would utilize these resources in my daily lesson planning for both group and individually tailored activities. I am in close contact with the families of my students, and would relay the information and resources to them as well. I’m coordinating a professional development workshop on ASD in the southwestern part of the state on April 18. The response has been overwhelming and we are full with a waiting list. I would followup with participants and give away the books to them probably through a drawing.

I would use these resources with the teachers that I coach. Although they are outstanding educators, they subscribe to many of the “myths” about these children. Thus, they are frustrated, the students are frustrated, and learning comes to a standstill.

I am the parent of two boys with Autism and also a social worker who works with many children with Autism. I would love to use these resources to both help my children and the students I work with.
My name is Dee Miller and I teach Gifted and General Level classes of Geometry and Algebra 2. I have autistic students of various levels of the spectrum in these classes. I try to get as much information about them and their issues as possible so that I can adequately address them in hopes of helping the students to be successful in their math classes. I have used the Free Spirit texts in obtaining my Gifted Certification and have been greatly impressed by the information these books contain. I would greatly appreciate receiving the books and information listed to assist me in not only working with my students but also with my autistic grandson. My grandson is 11 and currently in Grade 5. His mother, my daughter, who is gifted has worked tirelessly to find various avenues to help him reach some basic goals (although she was not aware of your books). He receives speech and occupational therapy weekly and my daughter does physical therapy with him. We both would appreciate additional information as resources. Thanks for this help!
I would support my son’s autism teacher in developing a peer group who would work with special needs students.
I am the Child Development Specialist and I work with children at a substance center. They are ages 3 weeks to 13 yrs. old. The children that are in this program already have multiple strikes against them, often falling through the cracks as well as a greater possibility of becomming a substance abuser. I periodically have austic children but not many materials for them so I will use the materials for our children who are housed at this treatment facility.

I am a public elementary school counselor and a big fan of “Free Spirit Publishing.” I am in need of more materials to support peer, teacher and parent education for our ASD students. I am a firm believer that with parent permission and involvement, educating peers about their ASD classmate can have a very positive impact. Teachers benefit from additional support as well. Along with our Speech Therapist, we also run “lunchbunch” groups to develop and support social skills and always need more activities for the hundreds of kids who cycle through each year. hi I am the mother of a 15 year old boy who was not diagnosed with high functioning autism until he was 11 years old.. he spent the last 3 years faling out of school. its taken us this long to finally get him on an IEP and now hes only on one for organizatopn. not help with his school work, We struggling trying to teach family and friend to to talk with my son and how to help him w/ his emothions, and social skills. Its hard to teach others when your learning your self. And I spend every day fighting for my son who gets bullied and beat up in school daily. * For the children that come through the behavioral health department where I work and I get to work grades 1-5 and 6-12!
* also in our building are 3 special need classrooms dealing with severly austistic children
* I volunteer at a learning center daycare that also has benifited from the resources at my work I share with them
* My children (10 & 11) and step grandchildren (age 11 to unborn…expecting #5 in Oct.) have benifited from the social skill tips
* I also get to work off site at schools that have behavioral and challanged children
* I also get to go hang out with my children at their school playground and do fieldtrips. I have shared information with the staff at their school as well.

I am a school counselor who has been using Free Spirit materials forever. I have a library full of all of your gifted education books along with many books on adolescence, bullying, and parenting. It is a library that is used by staff, students, and parents. Since our school is welcoming many more students on the autism spectrum, these books would be a helpful new resource.

I am a Case Manager with a mental health provider practicing coping strategies and interventions with adolescents on the Autism Spectrum. I am always looking for resources that ‘think out of the box’ and provide these young learners with fun ways to learn and engage with an adult. Unbelievably, I have actually used the Feelings Jar during my days as a Program Coordinator during training sessions with high school mentors and their fourth grade mentees; trying to get the high school mentors to better understand the fourth graders issues and the emotions they associate in different situations. It was an eye-opening experience for the high school mentors. I was especially surprised at the how the mentor/mentee relationships developed and the repeated requests to bring the Feelings Jar out after tutoring time.

I am a school counselor and there are several students in my building (it’s a private school) that are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders – and a few who display the behaviors but have not been formally identified. I am always looking for ways to meet the needs of each of my students. Even though I am certified in gifted education, one subject I’d like to have more education about is that of autism. That will allow me to meet the needs of my students who have autism. With this treasure of resources, I would be able to share this information with my students’ other teachers and their families so that our students can be successful both in the classroom and out in the “real world”.

As a mother of a son struggling with Autism, I would use these resources to help him. I am also a parent advocate and parent aide working with families involved with cps. 12 of the 13 families I am working with have children on the spectrum. i would use these resources to help them have a better understanding of their children and I would use these resources in order to help CPS have a better understanding of these children so they could provide appropriate services to these children and their families. I also facilitate a support group, Parenting Awesome Kids to teach parenting skills to parents who have children on the spectrum, so these resources would be a valuable tool for them as well.

I am an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant who works with Head Start Centers and Child Care preschool classrooms. I would use these books as resources with the teachers who work with me and also use the information found in the books to assist families who have questions about Autism/Special Needs. I am always looking to learn more about Autism and other special needs in children.
These materials would be great for our speech language students. Our paraprofessionals are always searching for new ideas and materials to help the students in their care. These would be great resources for them. As new paras are trained to work with students with special needs, these materials would be a great resource!
I would use these books to help my faculty and students. I often struggle to differentiate lessons for autistic students and would like help developing meaningful lessons in the library and the computer lab for them.
It looks like the first two books are kid friendly- I have some upper elementary students who are learning about what their autism means for them, and it would be nice to have some materials to use with them and their families. It’s a lot to come to terms with and understand and these materials could be very helpful for them!

We have been very satisfied with materials that we have purchased from Free Spirit Publishing. We treat individuals from birth on with pervasive developmental disabilities, autism, aspergers, and mental health disorders. For many of our clients, they do not qualify for county DD services due to their functioning level and without mental health agencies seeing them, they will go without any services at all. Any materials that improve an individual’s and/or families functioning level is greatly appreciated. We are a private not for profit agency serving both individuals and families with AOD and MH issues and like many states, our funding continues to get cut, thus we are unable to make purchases, placing all of our funding in staff in order to treat the individuals and their families.
We would use this in our new inclusion program and to help teachers and parents in our program to better understand the children we serve. I would be honored to have this in our library for teachers, parents, and families to be able to check out.
We would love this bundle. We see 300+ youth daily and as we are nearing summer we will increase numbers to 500+ daily. We also have 125 youth & adult volunteers matched in our community based mentoring program. Many of our youth fall somewhere on the spectrum. I would like to make these books available to the staff at the Club site and to the individual mentors. We would begin with training about autism and how to work with the youth we see and how to use these resources. Many of our mentors and Youth Developement Professionals find themselves at a loss when they are faced with certain situations. These resources would be invaluable. Thank you.
I would like to use this set to help work with students who may have issues related to Autism spectrum disorders. We do not have a lot of students who are “officially” diagnosed as having a spectrum disorder, but who have symptoms that are similar to those of students with Autism. These resources could help me in individual and group counseling and consulting with parents.
As the parent of a middle school student with autism, I would use Free Spirit’s resources to help his regular education teachers better understand him, and how his mind works. I would also help his regular education peers (including the Boy Scouts in his Troop) understand that he is a boy just like them, who occastionally acts or thinks about things differently than they do.

These books may help our school become a more inclusive and accepting place for our students with autism, and would help me bridge the gap between my work as a school counselor with general education students and our students with autism.
I am a family resource coordinator for an early childhood program and marriage and family therapy graduate student. The children we serve are aged infant to pre-K. I would use these resources with families as a tool to help build an effective knowledge base to explore Autism, shift perspectives to foster family insight about their and their child’s experience of Autism and create a more individualized and developmentally appropriate approach to meeting their child “where they are” within the context of WHO they are. Because I work with a lab school, these resources would also be extremely beneficial to the pre-service early childhood educators that are also served, in that they may broaden their understanding of best, early childhood developmentally appropriate practices.

As a secondary teacher who recently added Special Education on to my teaching license I do not feel that I know much about autism and how to help students who deal with the learning disabilities that it includes.
I am a SLC (Structured Learning Class) teacher. Currently, I have 10 students in my class who are all on the spectrum, but are fairly ‘high-functioning’ and working towards being mainstreamed. I would use the books to help guide some of my social skills lessons. I would also make them available to parents who wanted to borrow them- as I already do with the rest of my autism-related books.
As an Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee I am working with children and families from different background and races. I will love to have this resource to explore autism and the emotional connection between the child and the environment, including relationship with parents, peers their development in the school setting and using the resources from the community. Increasing child’s self-esteem and resilience, helping parents and other family members in understanding the condition, as well as going beyond in a collaborative stance for the achievement of child’s goals in life.

I am a middle school counselor for Grades 5 – 8. The Autism packet would be useful for classroom resources for teachers as well as providing more information for staff and parents as we find an increasing number of students being placed on the Spectrum. I Especially like the resource about meeting needs in the regular classroom.
I am a behavior consultant for a special education co-op. I would use the autism resources to help educate teachers, students, parents and other school professionals about autism. Our co-op serves a total of SIX school districts. These resources would help MANY students and professionals gain a better understanding of ASD. The materials would be shared with teachers, other behavior consultants, counselors, speech pathologists, special education teachers, school psychologists, etc…The resources can also be used for other students with learning difficulties or mental health disorders.

I work with children in grades K – 12, at an alternative school, as a mental health therapist. The students are on IEP’s to address their academic and behavioral needs. I work with the family’s of the students, and the students in individual and group settings. These books with be added to my resources and used as tools to increase the education of my parents and staff (teachers). I am a grandparent of a teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome. He is a joy and such a unique person. He has just recently discsovered that he has Asperger’s and now worries about it a lot. I would use these books to help him understand who he is and that he can still be successful. I like the mottor, “Never say can’t”. Our county has also started an Autism Support Group and I would share these books and try to help other parents understand how to deal with their children and the teachers that teach them. I have been an advocate for my grandson since he entered school and will continue to do so to help things be as good as they can be for him. Not everyone understands and there definitely needs to be more understanding.
Autism is becoming more and more common. I would love to be able to use these resources to provide the supports and accomodations that these students need to help them to be as successful as possible. I want them to feel like they can learn and grow and be the best they can be.
I am a first year School Counselor (and the only counselor in the district) in a k-12 School with almost 800 students. Being new to the field, I am constantly searching for tools and tips to help better serve my students. I find myseld purchasing many of my own materials. Over 90% of our students are enrolled in the free and reduced lunch program and many of our students and their families are struggling. We have a large population of students with un-diagnoised disorders that most likely fall into the austism spectrum, however we have very little parental support to get students the services they need. I would use these materials to help provide our under serviced and under-priviledged students with more individualized support to meet their needs. Our staff also needs traning and support to help these students in the classroom. Many teachers see there is an issue but don’t know what to do about it. I would use the bundle as a resource for Rhythms of Grace, A Special Grace. This is a program we use at our church for sensory friendly worship and mission with families on the autism spectrum. It is a program of formation and liturgy promoting aawareness, inclusion and understanding. It was begun in Connecticut several years ago. Rev. Rebecca Black is leading and promoting it in Massachusetts. It has already spread to several other churches. The website is http://www.aspecialgrace.com. It is “an alternative worship experience where we dance, draw, wiggle…and rest in God.”

We have an autism program in our k-8 school. As the librarian, I would love to have more resources about autism. It would help mainstreem students who have autism students in their classroom understand and relate to their peers.
In my work as a program director and consultant with early childhood professionals I have found resources from Free Spirit very helpful!! Autism resources would add to my library of material and help me in better support the early childhood professionals! Our consulting focus is on social-emotional development and Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports. As a counselor I would use these materials to create a greater awareness of autism in the classroom.
This is my entry to enter the contest for the bundle of austism books. These books would become the beginning of the “special needs” section at the library of my local school. I see so many teachers, parents and students struggling with issues that are probably explained in this set of books – or at least that is my hope. These books would be used daily in preparing lesson plans, in ARD meetings, and in helping educate and explain behaviors that are up-to-now viewed as a student being obstinate or lazy or not listening.

I would use these wonderfully resources to promote awareness and educate the children and staff of our school and the families in our community. We have two resource rooms dedicated to children with Autism who are in the regular classroom with same age peers as much as possible. This provides a wonderful learning environment for our staff and students to ask questions about peers with different abilities. These books will help us to provide insightful, positive and accurate responses. They will, also, be a resource for the children with Autism and the staff dedicated to supporting them.

We have a grandson with Asperger’s and so try to learn what we can to understand how he sees the world. Also, I work as the director of youth ministry and we see teens dealing with Asperger’s on occassion – since our catechists are volunteers I want to do all I can to help them understand how to be welcoming to those young people and help the teens find a safe place in groups here.

The Autism Book Bundle would help immensely in our residential treatment facility (CFG Residentials, Camden, NJ). We currently serve troubled, emotional, developmental adolescents ranging from 10-18 years of age, boys and girls, and have had in influx of adolescents coming in who have fallen along the autistic spectrum. Having more resources for our staff to use to understand, communicate, and foster these adolescents in their growth and communicating/developmental needs would be vital in our ability to provide for their special needs.
I would use the materials in our parent lending library and as a resource for our students to help them understand what children with autism spectrum disorders are dealing with.
I am the School-Age Manager for a Child Development Center in Round Lake, IL. with an enrollment of anywhere from 400 to 500 students per year. I have dedicated my life to children and have been on staff for 31 years as a teacher, camp director and for the past 12 years, a manager. I am also a licensed professional counselor. I have the vital job of training our staff, and I am simply amazed at the increasing numbers of students in our care who now have autism, as our staff are, as well. My husband and I have 14 children, 13 of whom we adopted out of the foster care system. One of our boys has autism. We are always trying to. educate ourselves and our family and friends about our kids’ special needs. We try to put enough supports in place for our kids so they are successful.
I would use this book bundle when working with autistic children in the school setting. I would use the Autism Book Bundle as a school counselor to teach students with Autism valuable skills and that they are normal. We have a cohort of autistic students in our elementary school this year who have returned from outside placements in specialized educational settings to learn in our general education school where they interact with teachers and students in new and different ways. This successful venture has been wonderful for all involved. In the fall, our program will expand to our middle school so preparations are underway now to set that stage for success. We would use these resources in designing activities for our staff and students.
I would like to use these materials with my “Dolphin Duos”–they are regular ed student buddies with children in the autism cluster this year. I work at a children’s psychiatric hospital and we see a lot of children with autism, I would use these resources to improve my communication with these children which in turn would allow me to better teach and assist them in learning skills to help recover their emotions. I also feel these resources would be beneficial to the other children I have the opportunity to serve.
I am in charge of the classroom and pull-out interventions in our district and I would love to share these resources with the classroom teachers to help them better work with these students in their rooms.
